PAVEL KLINICHEV
Pavel Klinichev is an award-winning conductor with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. Recognized as a Distinguished Artist of Russia in 2021 and a five-time recipient of the National Theatre Award “Golden Mask”, Pavel’s repertoire spans symphonic, opera, and ballet works.
The highlights of 2024 include the premiere of The Queen of Spades, and Trumpets at the Bolshoi, La Traviata at the Chvorostovskiy Festival with the Bolshoi Orchestra in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, as well as a series of Symphonic and Opera Gala concerts.

Currently he holds prominent positions as a resident conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia (since 2001), a resident guest conductor at the Ural Opera Ballet Theatre in Ekaterinburg (since 2015), and the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg (since 2014). In the first half of the 2025/26 season alone, he will premiere three major productions - The Little Humpbacked Horse at the Bolshoi (May 2025), Stone Flower at the Ural Opera Ballet (April 2025), and Snow Maiden at the Ural Opera Ballet (June 2025).
Throughout his tenure at the Bolshoi Theatre, Maestro Klinichev has conducted over fifty works, including the operas La Traviata, La Bohème, Tosca, Nabucco, La Sonnambula, Prince Igor, The Snow Maiden, The Tsar's Bride, The Golden Cockerel, Eugene Onegin, Iolanta, The Fiery Angel, Katerina Izmailova, and many ballet performances. Has collaborated with prominent directors such as Francesca Zambello, Rimas Tuminas, and Yuri Lyubimov on several opera productions. He has also staged over 20 new ballet productions, working alongside celebrated choreographers including Yuri Grigorovich, Hans van Manen, Paul Lightfoot, Alexei Ratmansky, Johan Kobborg. Notable works include: The Rite of Spring (I. Stravinsky), Frank Bridge Variations (B. Britten), Symphony of Psalms (I. Stravinsky), The Golden Age (D. Shostakovich), Romeo and Juliet (S. Prokofiev).

Leadership and Contributions to the Arts
Maestro’s leadership roles include serving as Music Director at the Ural Opera Ballet Theatre in Ekaterinburg (2010–2015); Sofia National Opera and Ballet Theatre (2019–2020); guest conductor for the Korean National Ballet (2004–2005) and the Universal Ballet Company in South Korea (2005–2007). From 2004 to 2008, he collaborated with Elena Obraztsova on her international competition for young opera singers. Maestro Klinichev remains a sought-after conductor for gala concerts, having performed with luminaries like Anna Netrebko in Frankfurt and Hamburg (2019) and at major events, including the Dmitry Hvorostovsky Charity Gala (Moscow, 2019), the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Ballet Stars Gala (Tokyo, 2010), and tributes to Maya Plisetskaya (2005) and Elena Obraztsova (2004).
His discography is represented by leading labels, including: Universal Music Group (Bolshoi Chamber Orchestra, 1999), Decca (Spartacus, recorded by the Bolshoi Ballet and the Orchestre Colonne, 2008), Bel Air Classiques (Bolshoi Theatre performances, 2012–2021).
Pavel Klinichev graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory as a choirmaster (1998) and symphony conductor (2000), later completing postgraduate training in symphonic conducting. He has since returned to the Conservatory as an Associate Professor, where he continues to educate the next generation of conductors and serves as a jury member for international competitions.
Artistic Milestones
As a touring conductor with the Bolshoi Theatre Opera, Ballet, and Orchestra, Pavel Klinichev has performed at the world’s most prestigious venues, including Teatro alla Scala, The Royal Opera House, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Metropolitan Opera, Opera national de Paris, and Bunko Kaikan Tokyo. Throughout his extensive touring Maestro has also collaborated with many renowned orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro Regio di Torino Orchestra, The Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Teatro Regio di Parma Orchestra, Orchestre Colonne.
He has also performed with the Orchestra of the Music Academy of the West (California), as well as the Academic Orchestras of St. Petersburg and Moscow, and many other orchestras with various symphonic programs.
